It’s A Reader’s Life Has Turned One!

Its official, It’s A Reader’s Life has been running for exactly a year today! I am so proud of how far I’ve come and the amazing support I have had from all of you. I’ve met so many lovely people, interviewed some amazing authors and read some pretty awesome books so thank you so much for sticking with me. None of this would have been possible without you all reading and liking my posts and I am eternally grateful!

In honour of It’s A Reader’s Life’s birthday, I am hosting a Q&A. The last time I did one of these was way back when I reached 100 followers (we’re now up to 400 and counting!!!) so I thought I was about time I updated you on, well, me! Thank you to everybody who sent in a question

 

Who was your favourite childhood author?

This answer is a little easier. When I was around the ages of 8-11, I refused to read any author other than Jacqueline Wilson. I was completely obsessed and made it my mission to own every book she had ever written. My personal favourites were Love Lessons, Kiss and Midnight. Which authors did you love as a child?

Which books made you interested in reading in the first place?

As I said, Jacqueline Wilson was hugely influential in my reading and that all began with Tracy Beaker. This of course began as a TV show but I quickly read the books once I discovered where this awesome character came from.

If you could only read 5 authors for the rest of your life, who would they be?

I can’t imagine only being able to read books from 5 authors, thats my idea of hell! I love YA authors so I’d probably choose authors from this genre. Maybe Rainbow Rowell, Jennifer Niven, Sarah Dessen, ….and J.K Rowling (of course!).

Are there any book characters you really connected with?

The answer to this is easy for me. Cath from Fangirl is literally me in a book! I have never come across a character who is so similar to me. I think the whole social anxiety thing and her love for books had a lot to do with it. I also recently read Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson and I related to Emily a lot because she was a really shy character who was scared of taking risks (I’m really not selling myself here, I am?).

What book do you recommend to everyone?

Eleanor and Park. Eleanor and Park. Eleanor and Park. I freaking love Eleanor and Park. It is one of my all time favourite books and everybody needs to read it!

Do you have a role model, and if so who is it?

I don’t really have one particular person I look up to. I have huge respect for anybody who fights for what they believe in so the Suffragette movement of the 20th century and the LGBTQ community of the 60s/70s. I wish I could be as brave and courageous as them.

What is your dream job?

I have been thinking about this a lot recently because I have just finished my A Levels and I need to decide what to do with my life. The real answer: I don’t actually know. I love reading and writing and I love to blog so I think my dream job would be a blend of those things. Maybe I could take It’s A Reader’s Life full time of become a book reviewer for The Guardian. Or both!

If you could have a dinner party with any five people, historical or alive, who would you invite?

My number one choice would be Sarah Dessen. She is one of my favourite authors and I would love to have chats with her over a glass of wine. My other guests would include J.K Rowling, Emmeline Pankhurst, Jacqueline Wilson and Ed Sheeran (aka my boyfriend).
